Understanding How Depression Works
Just like a stirrer, which agitates the normal pattern of a given something, depression can easily be explained as a cause and effect cycle. In a general enclosure of its characteristics it is basically a mental state in which an individual feels sad and discouraged for a long period of time. Yet, “being depressed”, as it is colloquially referred to, also includes that the individual can feel fear and even rage, making a person turn violent. There are basic sings of depression, but the way it is treated and the approach a professional should make is completely personal: the cause being personal, soon to be discovered.
Some people confuse unhappiness and confusion with depression. What makes someone feel depressed then? The mixture of “sad” feelings or a “sad attitude” toward life in general -grief, rage, despair, frustration, confusion, anxiety, et all- in a repetitive manner, can lead a person to depression. There are even physical diseases that can help a person develop depression. Even pregnant women can suffer from depression, with all the sudden hormonal changes that they undertake during this period.
Thankfully, most people who suffer from depression can get treatment to overcome this pathology. There are various medical approaches to get through this kind of state, from psychological and psychiatrical interventions to clinical methodology, depending on the intensity of the situation. Both treatment and individual most go hand by hand in every step. Like any other hard situation, family and friends will play a crucial part on how the affected person is going to handle it; their moral support will be a key point to overcome this phase. And then, that given something that at the beginning was agitated, will finally come to its balanced state.
