There is no shame in having an eating disorder

There’s no shame in having an eating disorder. It isn’t a sign of personal failing, or an indication of moral weakness. On the contrary, an eating disorder is a disease, and like all diseases it exists beyond the volitional control of its victims. You would never blame a cancer patient for having cancer. The same logic applies to eating disorders. And, in the same sense that no one can ever beat cancer without medical help, no can overcome anorexia or bulimia without professional eating disorder treatment.

The best eating disorder treatment is that which promotes both physical and psychological recovery. Eating disorder victims are sick both in body and in mind, after all, and healing must occur on both fronts. The practical implication is that you have to find an eating disorder treatment program that can give you all the care you need to get better. There are no partial victories in the treatment process. If you’re going to be healed, you’re going to have to be all-the-way healed. Don’t wait another day to entrust your care to people who can help you get where you need to go.
